New Park to Meet Requests of the Community

A common request in planning discussions with neighbors and community stakeholders was that the existing area would benefit from adding a new public park. LPC has been working with the Naperville Park District to make the community’s request a reality.

While still being refined, a concept plan for the park is in process. As currently envisioned, there would be a playground, an open-air shelter/pavilion, landscaping, and a mini-amphitheater berm. The improvements in the new sidewalks and roadway will increase the walkability and connectivity of this new public amenity.

Collaboration With DuPage County for an Improved Naper Blvd. Frontage

While not required, LPC has been collaborating with the DuPage County Department of Transportation and City of Naperville to undertake an improvement program for the area between Naper Blvd. and The Residences at Naper & Plank.

A review determined that many of the existing trees were unhealthy, invasive species, or otherwise low-quality. In addition to creating a meandering path along Naper Blvd. to increase the walkability and connectivity of the area, native trees will be planted.

This beautification effort will revitalize the habitat in the area from its current condition, while improving the views of residents, neighbors, and the passengers in the more than 18,000 vehicles that traverse Naper Blvd. daily.

Landscape Buffering

Beyond the creation of the park and replanting of trees along Naper Blvd., a comprehensive landscaping plan has been designed to enhance the 30% open space and create a visually appealing buffer.

Currently, portions of the site have been overgrown with a variety of trees and vegetation that are of low quality or undesirable, invasive species.

The trees, vegetation, and plants installed at the property as part of the development will utilize native species that enhance the habitat, are tolerate of Midwest seasonal weather and provide an visually appealing aesthetic year-round.

The stormwater detention basin located at the north end of the development will be naturalized and landscaped, as well as utilize a water feature and seating areas.
